SO MANY elements to this picture but what do they tell us? We have no information to go with it: no date, no location, no caption, however it’s almost certainly somewhere in Plymouth (there are posters for Courtenay House, the Theatre Royal, a concert at the Guildhall and news of a special edition of the Evening Herald with a full report on Asquith’s Speech). The wall of advertisements is itself very distinctive, along with the telegraph pole behind it and the buildings with their strange chimney pots beyond it: perhaps someone will recognise it.
Herbert Henry Asquith died in 1928 and served the country as Prime Minister from 1908-16 and undoubtedly his most significant speeches would have been made during those years – could this image be that early? The cars have solid tyres suggesting that this is pre- 1925 and they look to be very early models.
There is a man with what appears to be a camera on a tripod in the middle distance, by the policeman, so this would seem to have been an important event in its own right. Does anyone have any ideas? Picture from the Ron Andrews collection at the Plymouth Barbican Association South West Image Bank
Salmond calls for effort on recycling
Salmond calls for effort on recycling

MORE effort must be put into recycling waste so it can be turned into a valuable resource, First Minister Alex Salmond has said.
He said Scotland was making good progress towards becoming a zero- waste society but people still threw away enough rubbish to fill an Olympic-sized swimming pool every 10 minutes.
In Aberdeen at the launch of a new service by a commercial firm to turn leftover food, coffee grounds, cups and paper towels collected from businesses and restaurants into compost, Salmond said Scotland’s throwaway culture had to change.
He said: “If all of the food waste currently produced in Scotland was captured and treated separately, it could generate enough energy to power a city almost the size of Aberdeen.
“The Scottish Government is committed to creating a cleaner, greener Scotland where waste is recycled to create valuable resources, supporting our economy and protecting our natural environment.”
Salmond said the “ground-breaking” Zero Waste Plan aimed to change the way people viewed what they threw away.
The plan, published last month, sets out targets to tackle the 20 million tonnes of waste produced in Scotland each year.
It includes new legislation requiring councils to impose mandatory food waste collections by 2013, a measure the Government claims will save local authorities money.
The Government said waste could be used to generate renewable energy, heat and fertiliser and recycling schemes had the potential to create 2000 jobs across the country.

He met with little success.
Gary?s old clients remained firm in their relationship with his old employers. Not only that but, those clients let the old employer know what Gary was doing. He was using disparaging remarks and comments. Next, he was unable to duplicate his popular articles. It seems he originally, he had professional help. The articles based on his rough notes were ghost written. The ghostwriter was a personal friend of his old employers.
Gary?s new employer was left with an unsuccessful employee. They received far less than what they thought they had hired. Gary was let go. He immediately tried to get his old job back, not knowing that his antics had already been broadcast. He was not rehired.
There are two morals to be learned here:
If you are an employee looking to move up, develop your own skills and make yourself more valuable to your employer
If you are an employer hiring what you believe is a qualified employee, look beneath surface comments and stated skills
There are two other morals as well, which are beneficial to all. I don?t think Gary learned them, but he should have.

Anyway he gave me the bird, but then I realized something, this guy was a no prisoners kick butt multi-tasker. How so you ask?
Well he flipped me off and was still on the cell phone and driving the car with his elbow, while laying on the horn to make sure I was looking at him flip me off? He was obviously a multi-tasking manager working for some company? I thought to myself why can I not find someone to hire like that?
Well, I decided to hire him right there on the freeway, so I gave chase! I figured if I could catch this gentleman and make him an offer he could not refuse he would come work for me. Apparently he was in such a hurry, must have really been into his job.
I just could not catch him to pull him out of the car to hire his butt.

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Three Massachusetts teenagers pleaded not guilty through their lawyers Tuesday in the bullying of a 15-year- old girl who committed suicide after what prosecutors call months of threats and harassment.
The teens were not required to appear at the hearing in Hampshire Superior Court.
Sean Mulveyhill and Kayla Narey, both 17 and from South Hadley, and 18-year-old Austin Renaud, of Springfield, will remain free on personal recognizance on the condition that they stay away from the family of Phoebe Prince, the girl who died.
Mulveyhill and Renaud are charged with statutory rape. Mulveyhill and Narey are also charged with violation of civil rights resulting in bodily injury, criminal harassment and disturbance of a school assembly.
They are among nine teens charged in what prosecutors said was the “unrelenting” bullying of Prince, who hanged herself Jan

Pilot and The Ledger-Star, Norfolk, VA – in short, shorts are in
in short, shorts are in

This summer, shorts are as likely to be the appropriate attire for cocktails at a nightclub as at a baseball game, elevating a once- casual wardrobe staple to new fashion status.
Shorts now come in silky prints as well as sturdy cottons; they can be sleek and tailored or pleated and poufed.
The trend is getting a boost from such young Hollywood actresses as Amanda Seyfried and Blake Lively, who have made red-carpet appearances at award shows and film festivals in shorts rather than dresses.
“We’ve seen them get really strong in the last couple of springs,” says Terry Garbarini, who owns a Denver boutique. “They were a fresh, integral part to some of the lines we carry, so we felt we needed to have them in the store.”
Garbarini says her customers like shorts influenced by both the safari-military trend and dressy styles, and are pairing them with chic flats, wedge heels and statement shoes.
“Younger women are totally open to them,” Garbarini says. She cites an animal-print style, tailored linen designs and styles that are slim on the leg and a little longer that are finding an audience.
“Every pair we sold could go with a pancake-flat thong or a platform. It’s like wearing a pair of jeans or baggy cargo pants. There isn’t just one way you wear it. You can dress it up or wear it sloppy,” she says.
The only requirement to wearing shorts, Garbarini says, “is that you have great legs and want everyone to look at you.”
Which is why this trend skews young and is best reserved for those who not only have well-shaped legs but also plan on spending time keeping their gams silky and stubble-free.
Kate Dimmock, fashion director for People StyleWatch magazine, is a little more lenient in her assessment.
Whether you’re in your 20s or your 40s, she says, “you wear shorts at some moment in life.” And many women in their 40s and older are taking care of their bodies, working out and keeping their legs sleek, so they continue to wear shorts, she says.
Dimmock says that when women shop for shorts, they pay more attention to what fits well than what’s chic.
“They’re less caught up in trendiness than what looks good on them,” Dimmock says. “There’s really no way around it.”
For daytime, she likes the classic look of shorts worn with a white blouse and espadrilles. Other good casual shoe choices are a clog or wedge, with wood or cork in the heel

UNITED STATES: A Briton accused of stealing the identity of a dead American was today being held in the United States under house arrest.
John Skelton, 41, from Yorkshire, was arrested on Monday after flying in to Baltimore-Washington airport, US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said.
He was held after allegedly using a fraudulent US passport to re- enter the country after a trip to the UK and was later released to “home confinement”.
Federal prosecutors said he was freed under strict conditions which included electronic monitoring.
He is accused of aggravated identity theft, making a false statement in an application and use of a US passport, and social security number fraud.
He allegedly stole the identity of US citizen Kurt Branham, who died in 1994 aged 28, spokesman Steve Sapp said.
